photogoniometer goniophotometer luminaire photometry intensity matrix calibration mechanical design
Main Article Content
This project, carried out as a collaborative effort between Universidad del Valle and the Colombian luminaries manufacturer Roy Alpha, Inc., describes the design and calibration of a photogoniometer for the company\'s photometry lab. A brief summary is given regarding the different types of photogoniometers, their operation, and the important role they play in the luminary design process. Also, a description is given of the design that has been conceived and constructed. Lastly, the methodology of calibration is explained, a methodology which made it possible to assure that the system\'s assembly was adequate before making any photometric measurements in the laboratory. A comparison made between the photometries obtained with this photogoniometer and those carried out in a certified laboratory showed differences no greater than 3%. The total investment of Roy Alpha, Inc., in this project was approximately 25 % of the purchase price of an imported photogoniometer system.
