¿Is the R project for statistical computing appropriate for computational intelligence?

In this paper it is reviewed the R project for statistical computing and graphics. It is presented a review of the main features of the environment and the underlying programming language. It is argumented the utility of this tool for programming computer sciences paradigms by mean of several examples. Finally, it is argued why R language is an interesting tool for developing software in the computational intelligence field.
