Some reflections are presented on the Research and Technological Development process in the Universidad del Valle, and in particular in the area of Engineering. These arise after decanting a difficult, long and complex road, which has been traveled and is traveled today by many professors that dream of making a real contribution to the solution of felt problemas of the society. Also in this article is presented the influence that in the slow advance of the process of R&D have the policies and the procedures had in the evaluation of the intellectual production that govern the credentials in the Colombian University. A caea of R&D ia analyzed and some appeared difficulties are presented looking for transforming it into an applicable solution.
