Incidence of altitude for measuring the air quality of PM10 and PM2.5 as part of meeting the objective and characteristics of AQMS
Main Article Content
Air Quality Monitoring Systems seek to determine compliance with air quality standards, and a the same time assess risks to public health and the environment. The lack of knowledge and accuracy at the time of applying some criteria for the design and validation of Air Quality Monitoring Systems can generate uncertainty in the veracity of the data. The present research aims to establish the concentration of PM10 and PM2.5 at 2 and 10 m of height to determine its incidence in the result of the measurements. Measurements were carried out at the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas in the FAMARENA Bosa El Porvenir faculty and in the ASAB Arts faculty, during a period of 7 months, where additionally climatological, statistical, correlation and comparison analyses were developed. The concentration levels were higher than 2 m in the two study points, because they exceeded more than 60% of the total data for each parameter. In addition, it was found that PM10 and PM2.5 at both measurement points show general concentration differences of 5 to 15 µg/m3 and maximum concentrations of 40 µg/m3. The altitude has a significant impact on the measurement regardless of its origin, becoming an important variable to evaluate in order to design an Air Quality Monitoring System.
